I was invited to the church by a part of the congregation and was thinking about going. It was during the winter and I was walking with my 3 year old son and we didn't want to slip on the sidewalk so we cut through the parking lot which was shoveled. The man who works in a white van there started yelling profanities at us telling us to get off "his" property, and later when we were walking at night (in the other direction because now my son is too scared to walk in that direction) he bumped right into my son almost knocking him over and continued walking fast paced without a word. I told the reverend about this and he didn't care, his response had something to do with "You didn't tell me you had a dog with you." I didn't. If I did, why would it make a difference to how his employee acted. It disgusts me that they pretend to be a house of god in our neighborhood while ruining it. They even have private property signs so no one can play on their little playground and not wake the groundskeeper, and have since added a gate that closes off their parking lot that they forget to open even during mass sometimes, making it difficult for everyone. I have never seen a church of all places behave like this.

I have been a part of this congregation for a few years now. I'm puzzled by the review posted as it has not been my experience at all. In fact, this has been one of the most welcoming congregations I have encountered. I have seen nothing but respect toward everyone, whether aged and infirm or the smallest child, I have seen nothing of which this gentleman describes. As to the gate, the church parking lot was becoming unsafe for the people there during the week, our children who sometimes play in the parking lot, etc., as cars were rushing through using us to bypass the intersection (really, why? It's a residential area with a four-way stop. How much time could you be saving?) I have never seen the gate not open for Sunday Liturgy, and there is another entrance to the parking lot at all times. For those who would doubt, let me say, we have people of many, many nationalities, and we love it that way! Glory to God! If you are considering Nativity of Our Lord Orthodox Church, I suggest you check out our service schedule and come and see. We'd love to have you.
